During a routine inspection

We spoke by telephone to seven people who attend Marden House Dental Practice.

The people we spoke with were positive about the practice and appreciative of the care they received there. When we asked if they were happy overall with their dental treatment one person said 'Oh yes, very much so'. People said that they did not usually have to wait long before being called though from the waiting room. One person said the practice is busy but their dentist keeps to time and that they were 'always called in on time'

We asked people whether their dentist gave them clear information about the dental care and treatment they needed and any costs involved in this. People told us that they were given good information about both these things. One person said their dentist was patient and 'explains and shows things to me'.

We also spoke with people about how the team at the practice dealt with them as people and whether their privacy and dignity was respected. People were very complimentary about this. One person commented 'they are always smiling and cheery ' never in a bad mood'. Two people we spoke told us they were so happy with their dental care that they had continued to visit the principal dentist after he had moved from another area. In each case this meant the person having a long journey for appointments.

We spoke with a parent whose children were also patients at Marden House. They said that their dentist was good with the children. For example, one was going to need a brace and the dentist had explained this to them well.

People confirmed that the dentists and nurses washed their hands and always wore protective clothing such as disposable aprons and gloves. They said that they were given protective goggles to wear during their treatment. People were happy with the cleanliness and hygiene arrangements at the practice. One person told us 'cleanliness doesn't come into it ' it is pristine and spotless every time' and another said ' I don't think you could fault that my duck'.

We saw information to show that any complaints made were dealt with in a positive and constructive way and that the practice used these opportunities to make improvements to the way they did things.

There was a friendly but efficient atmosphere and the dentists and their team were professional and enthusiastic about dental care. One person described their dentist as 'professional and interested in what he does, always upgrading and moving with the times'.
