Kindness, compassion and dignity
There were no patients using the service during our assessment. However, we reviewed comments left by patients and spoke with staff. Comments left by patients demonstrated that the service treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.
Treating people as individuals
We saw from records kept and from the comments people made that the service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. Staff described how they would care for someone with a disability who accessed the clinic. They described how they tailored packages and treatment to an individual’s needs. The desired outcome for the treatment was a dominant feature of consultation with the medical team being realistic about what could be achieved.
Independence, choice and control
The service promoted people’s choice and involvement in their care. They discussed the treatment and provided information so that patients could make an informed choice. They provided an online consultation so that the initial plan for treatment and the desired outcomes could be discussed. This was reiterated at the face-to-face consultation. Any individual plans or outcomes were discussed with the patient at these consultations.
Responding to people’s immediate needs
Staff and the senior team told us how they would adapt the service to meet the needs of the patient. This might include the number of breaks in treatment to minimise a patient’s discomfort or distress. The team were able to demonstrate listening to patient’s feedback. This included where a patient felt that the team were talking over the patient in their mother tongue. The senior team held a meeting with all staff to raise this and suggested ways in which they could improve, such as speaking only in the language understood by the patient. They monitored the effectiveness of the plans through further feedback and direct observation.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The senior team cared about the wellbeing of their staff. They supported the team to deliver person centred care through training at meetings and through giving the staff an opportunity to raise concerns through the monthly “Town Hall Meetings.” Staff felt able to approach any member of the senior management team if they had an issue
