Forrester Court is a care home with nursing that can accommodate up to 113 across 6 units. They provide personal and nursing care for older people, some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 111 people living in the home.

This location is run by 2 companies. These 2 companies have a dual registration and are jointly responsible for the services at the home. This is the first assessment of the service with this registered provider. The service was registered on 21 October 2024. The last rating for this service with the other registered provider was good (published 14 April 2018). We looked at all the quality statements and the overall rating for this service is good.

We identified some shortfalls with the management and administration of medicines. However, the registered manager took prompt action to rectify these issues during our assessment. People received a safe service, were protected from abuse or neglect and had their human rights promoted. Robust recruitment procedures were followed. There were sufficient staff to meet people’s needs and keep them safe. Risks to people were assessed and their safety was monitored and managed., People were supported in the least restrictive way. Accidents and incidents were monitored and analysed, so lessons could be learned and recurrences avoided. Staff followed effective infection control procedures.

People had their needs assessed and care plans were compiled to meet their individual requirements. People were supported to live healthy and safe lifestyles and had full support to access healthcare professionals, as needed. Staff understood the Mental Capacity Act and made sure people consented to their care and support. People were supported in the least restrictive way possible and had maximum choice and control of their lives.

Care plans were regularly reviewed and kept up to date. Managers carried out regular audits. People were supported to make a complaint if needed and they were listened to and responded to appropriately. Information from complaints, comments or concerns was used to help drive improvement.

People received a personalised service and were fully involved in all aspects of their care and support. Staff worked with people in accordance with their care plans, but also made sure people were encouraged to do as much for themselves as possible. Information was accessible and available to people in a format suitable for their communication needs. Equality and diversity was consistently promoted and respected for everyone.

People's experience of the service

People told us they felt safe. They confirmed that lessons were learned if things went wrong and changes were made to improve the service. People said they were comfortable raising concerns and knew who to contact if they needed to do this. A person told us, “I know how to do it, but I’ve got no reason to complain.”

People said care staff were kind and caring. People also told us staff were always respectful and asked for their consent before providing care. A person told us, “They [staff] are kind, caring and definitely respectful.” People told us the home was clean and hygienic and that staff followed appropriate infection control procedures.

Despite the concerns we found, people gave positive feedback about the support they received with medicines and said staff helped them to access healthcare professionals when needed.

People told us they had been fully involved in having their needs assessed and compiling their care plans and risk assessments. They said these were regularly reviewed and updated if changes were needed. People said their care packages were tailored to their individual needs and told us they felt in control and their choices were respected.

People told us they felt they were treated fairly, and nobody had experienced any discrimination or inequality.

People told us they found the registered manager approachable and helpful and said they felt the service was very well managed. A person told us, “Things have certainly improved since [manager] has been there."
