During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment 22 to 29 January 2026. The service is a care home with nursing care that provides support for up to 18 people with a learning disability. At the time of the inspection there were 17 people who were receiving support.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. This was the first inspection of this service as there had been a change of provider in 2024.
The service was managed by an established management team made up of a Registered Nursing Service Manager, Deputy Nursing Service Manager, Service Coordinator, Assistant Service Coordinator and Domestic Services manager. The team of leaders had oversight of the service and led staff with care and consideration of their needs.
Staff told us leaders were supportive and knowledgeable. They felt happy to approach them to discuss any issues they may identify.
People were supported safely by staff that knew them well. Staff ensured people’s complex health needs were appropriately supported. Health and social care professionals told us staff worked proactively with them to ensure best outcomes for people. Staff could discuss clearly how best to support people and demonstrated a good knowledge of people needs. However leaders could not always demonstrate that staff were up to date with all mandatory training.
The service building needed updating. This had been identified by the new provider who demonstrated they had a schedule of works to ensure improvements were made. This was in progress at the time of the inspection.
Medicines were not always managed safely. We saw some people’s medicine records were not always appropriate or up to date. Management audits had not identified these shortfalls.
