We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 8 June 2026.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Castilian Street Dental Practice is in Northampton and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There is stepped access to the premises which makes it unsuitable for people who use wheelchairs. It is not possible to install a ramp at the entrance. People are informed of the restriction when they first make contact with the practice. Car parking is available on the streets and public car parks within close vicinity to the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 11 staff, of which there were 3 dentists (including a foundation dentist), 4 dental nurses, 1 dental therapist and 3 receptionists. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 40 patients. On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback routinely collected by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “I have been a patient of Castilian Street Dental Practice for many, many years. My family are also long standing clients. I have always felt very satisfied and confident with the service they provide. The practice is very friendly, efficient and, most importantly, professional from the front office to the dentist's chair! Over the years, I have come to appreciate and understand modern dental thoughts and practice. [Clinician] is always ready to discuss and advise my particular dental needs. I have learned how valuable her advice is and do my best to put it into practice. Once upon a time, I used to dread a visit to the dentist, during the late '50s/60's. Today, it is pain free dentistry in very competent hands. I no longer dread my six-monthly check up!”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “I have continued to find Castilian Street Dental Practice a particularly well-managed and efficient operation, demonstrating professionalism, care, knowledge and friendliness during all interactions with them. All staff are welcoming and supportive at all times. The practice is clean and well appointed in all areas.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Comments included, “Myself and my whole family have been registered at the practice for many years. We have recommended them repeatedly over the years to friends and family who have all been equally happy with the service. All staff are friendly and welcoming. The practice is always clean and well presented. We have needed both urgent and routine treatment and have had no problems with accessibility. The clinicians are knowledgeable and have demonstrated integrity and professionalism at all times! I feel very fortunate to be under their care.”

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Comments included, “I recently visited Castilian Dental Practice for airflow cleaning and teeth whitening, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the moment I arrived, [clinician] and the team were welcoming, professional, and attentive. [Clinician] took the time to explain both procedures clearly, making me feel comfortable and confident throughout the treatment. What stood out most was [clinician’s] attention to detail and commitment to achieving the best possible outcome. The entire experience was comfortable, efficient, and carried out to the highest standard.”

Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

Patients were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
