Our view of the service
Silverleigh provides accommodation, personal and nursing care for up to 65 people. At the time of our visit there were 55 people using the service. The service provides care and support to older people, who may also have a physical disability, mental health needs or a dementia type illness. We carried out this assessment partly due to concerns we received regarding the care and support people received and staffing levels. Dates of Assessment were 30 October 2025 to 17 November 2025. This included 2 onsite visits to the service on 30 October and 10 November 2025.
Since the last inspection the service provider has changed. The new provider had introduced various structural and operational changes. During our visits, some employees shared their frustration about how fast these changes were made and how poorly they were communicated. The provider’s management team were working with the staff to improve the culture and communication. Prior to the assessment concerns were shared with us about a reduction in staffing levels and the potential impact this had on care delivery. During our visits feedback about staffing levels and response times was mixed. We have suggested further observations and review of staff deployment to help identify any times where people may require additional assistance, such as mealtimes.
The provider had safeguarding policies and procedures in place and staff were trained to recognise and respond to concerns, potential abuse and harm. Systems were in place to identify and manage risks within the service. Risk assessments were used to monitor and minimise risks associated with people’s health and support needs. Medicines were managed safely, although there were some improvements needed to the way creams and external preparations were recorded. This was addressed during the site visits.
People’s health was monitored, and staff worked well in partnership with external health and social care professionals. One health professional said, “We receive appropriate and timely referrals from Silverleigh. I have always felt that the service is safe, and the clients are extremely well cared for”. The provider worked in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity and treated them as individuals and supported their preferences and independence. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. The provider had good governance systems in place to ensure any improvements required were identified and actioned. The management team (the registered manager, director and deputy manager) had taken immediate action to address the identified shortfalls found during our visits, demonstrating responsiveness and a commitment to improvement.
