Date of Assessment: 2 May to 13 May 2025. Bishopsgate Lodge Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 51 people who have physical and mental health conditions. At the time of the inspection 40 people used the service.

This was the first inspection of this newly registered service. We received some concerns regarding the care provided and this prompted us to visit sooner than planned.

The service had recently gone through some management changes, including the appointment of a new manager and deputy manager. The manager had not yet been registered with the Care Quality Commission, but their application had been submitted. The management team had already identified some areas which required improvement and there was an action plan in place to address these.

There was enough very kind and considerate staff who received training and support. Training and supervision targets and timescales were behind, but the provider was working to address this.Medicines were generally well managed. We have asked for some updates to take place to enhance processes further.

The service was very clean and tidy, and staff generally followed infection prevention and control measures. We have asked the provider to review the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on entering kitchen areas as care staff were not always following best practice.Food and refreshments were fresh and plentiful, and people enjoyed what was prepared and served to them, including those on special diets. There was a strong focus on activities to improve people’s mobility and mental stimulation and support independence and choice.
