Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 2 April 2026.
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance.
Not all risks were appropriately assessed and managed. Where risks were identified, adequate steps were not taken to mitigate.
Recruitment policy reflected current legislation; however, this was not always followed by the provider when recruiting new members of staff.
Processes were needed to ensure medicines and prescriptions were managed in line with current guidance.
There was a lack of effective oversight at the practice.
UK Smiles Dental Practice Romford is one of two locations operated by the provider. The practice is in Romford in the London Borough of Havering and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice is located on the first floor of the building and is accessed via a flight of stairs. The practice was unsuitable for those in wheelchairs and mobility issues. The practice is opposite to the town’s railway station and car parking spaces are available near the practice.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 11 staff, of which there were 3 associate dentists- one of whom had special interest in orthodontics, 1 visiting orthodontist, 1 visiting oral surgeon, 3 qualified dental nurses and 1 dental hygienist. Staff are supported by 1 administrator and the practice manager who works across both locations. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, the administrator and the practice manager.
The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.
The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 good governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any feedback from patients. On the day of our inspection, we spoke with and saw patient feedback from patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included “Very happy with the results of my treatment.” “Happy with everything.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
