During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this inspection to ensure that the provider had completed the required improvements and addressed the areas of non-compliance found at our inspection on the 10 October 2013.

At the inspection on the 03 September 2014 we found that the provider had made the required improvements. We found that the provider had carried out the required repairs, maintenance and servicing of the dental chair and equipment to ensure they were meeting this essential standard.

We did not speak to patients during this inspection.

10 October 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

This report is a follow up to our report published in May 2013. We had inspected this provider on 12 February 2013, when we noted some issues which had a moderate impact on people using the service. These related to cleanliness and infection control. The provider did not ensure that people were protected from the risk of infection.

We set compliance actions requiring the provider to take steps to comply with Regulation 12 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010.

We made a further visit on 10 October 2013 to check on the action the provider had taken to meet the requirements of the regulation. We found that the provider had ensured people were treated in clean environment and were protected from the risk of infection. However, we noted that the provider did not arrange for the regular inspection and maintenance some of the equipment used for the purpose of carrying on the regulated activity. This mean that people who use the service were not protected from the use of unsafe or unsuitable equipment.

During a routine inspection

The practice was friendly, welcoming and informative. We saw that patients were listened to in all areas of the practice. The patients were consented appropriately and the staff had received training to ensure that they were up to date with different treatment techniques.

There were no patients at the practice during the time of our visit, so we were unable to gather direct feedback from users of the service. However we saw the results of patient surveys which showed they were happy with the care and treatment provided.

The practice was not meeting some of the guidelines published by the Department of Health (HTM01-05 essential quality requirements) to ensure patients were protected from the risks of infection.
