During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with the practice manager who was able to provide evidence of action taken to ensure that there was an effective recruitment process in place.

We reviewed staff files which contained evidence of Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks.

We looked around the practice and saw that appropriate steps had been taken to comply with infection control guidance.

23 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service during our visit.

People told us they had a choice of appointment times which could be fit around them. People said they usually got seen within five minutes of their appointment time. People told us they knew what to do if they required an emergency appointment. Two people who had required emergency appointments said that they were able to get an appointment quickly.

The people we spoke with were positive about the staff. One person commented; 'They're absolutely lovely. Really friendly.' Another person said; 'They're great.' Two other people described staff as 'very good' and 'helpful.'

People told us they were always given written estimate costs prior to treatment. People told us they were given choices in relation to their treatments and given the opportunity to ask questions. People said they were made aware of the risks and benefits associated with treatment. One person told us; 'If I don't understand I ask questions.' Another person said that the dentist 'talks through treatment and makes things clear.'

We asked people about the cleanliness of the surgery and all four people said they found the surgery to be 'very clean.'

The four people we spoke with knew to speak to a member of staff if they had a complaint and that this would be looked at by the practice manager.
