During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

At our previous inspection on 23 January 2014 we found that improvements were needed to the recruitment procedures used at the practice.

We asked the provider to send information to us to show that improvements to their recruitment procedures had been made. We checked the information we received. The information showed that an effective recruitment and selection process had been put in place to ensure patients were kept safe from the risk of harm.

Inspection carried out on 28 January 2013

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us that they were very happy with the service that they received.

Everyone confirmed that they had been involved in making decisions about their dental care and treatment options. They said they received Very good information. People told us that dental staff always explained procedures to them. One person said, I always feel consulted and involved.

People told us that their privacy and dignity was always maintained and that they felt safe and relaxed in the surgery.

Staff said they were well supported in their work. They told us they had regular training opportunities and received effective support. Records however did not always reflect this.

We saw arrangements in place to deal with emergency situations. Staff had received training to support medical emergencies.

We found that recruitment procedures needed improving. Not all required checks had been carried out to ensure staffs suitability prior to their appointment.

Procedures were in place for the management of infection control. People told us they were confident that the practice always looked clean and that dental staff took appropriate precautions to protect themselves and their patients from cross infection. Staff had received training in this area.

We saw the complaints procedure. Most people were aware of the formal complaints process and everyone said that they would be confident to speak with staff if they had a worry or concern.
