We found this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations and had taken into consideration appropriate guidance.

At the inspection on 6 May 2026 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

Actions identified in the electrical installation condition report and been acted on and a new report had been completed which showed the condition of the wiring system to be satisfactory.

The management of fire safety was effective. Actions in the fire risk assessment had been acted on including the installation of a fire detection system and emergency lighting. Staff described and we were shown records of regular checks of the fire systems and fire drills. Fire extinguishers had been serviced and emergency exits were kept clear.

Staff could access emergency equipment and medicines that were checked in line with national guidance. Staff knew how to respond to a medical emergency and had completed training in emergency resuscitation and basic life support.

Equipment was serviced and validated in line with manufacturers guidance. We were shown evidence of servicing and maintenance records of the compressor, autoclaves and air conditioning units.

The premises were visibly clean, well maintained and free from clutter. Hazardous substances were clearly labelled and stored safely. Risk assessments were available for hazardous substances. However, some of these risk assessments were not on-site at the time of inspection. We were sent evidence after the inspection that these risk assessments were available and were now back on-site.

At the inspection on 6 May 2026 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

Improvements had been made to the arrangements for staff induction, monitoring and supporting staff. However, further improvements are required to ensure there is effective oversight of the trainee dental nurses to ensure infection control procedures fully reflect national guidance. We discussed this with management and were informed about plans to ensure there is effective oversight of the trainee dental nurses.

At the inspection on 6 May 2026 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

Improvements had been made to the infection prevention and control procedures. Staff were able to demonstrate the decontamination process including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Minor improvements were required to fully being in line with national guidance.

Equipment used in the sterilisation process was maintained, serviced and tested as per manufacturers’ instructions.

Improvements had been made to the process for managing the risks associated with Legionella. We saw evidence of monthly temperature monitoring and action being taken when these had not reached the required level. In addition, staff were able to describe the process for flushing dental unit water lines and the use of the water conditioning agent.

An infection prevention and control audit had been completed and an action plan developed.
