All Inspections

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

Our inspection on 3 December found the provider non-compliant with Regulation 21(a) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010. The registered provider did not operate an effective recruitment procedure in order to ensure that no person was employed unless they were of good character and suitably vetted.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three patients and they were all complimentary about the practice. One patient who had been coming to the practice for 3 years commented "Good dentists, good treatment, and I would recommend the surgery". Another patient told us, "I think it is a clean practice with ok staff and I have no complaints" and another comment made by a patient, "I rate it eight out of ten and they are nice and friendly".

All patients felt well informed about the choices, the cost and possible outcomes of their treatment; although one mentioned that they would like to have more information regarding oral health care to improve their dental hygiene.

Staff had been working at the surgery for a considerable amount of time, and application forms were obtained and copies of passports were provided for proof of their identity. However there was lack of disclosure and baring service (DBS) checks and lack of references. This puts people under unnecessary risks from staff not suitable vetted and fit to work with vulnerable patients.

Safe and secure record keeping protected patients' confidentiality.

During a routine inspection

Patients who used the dental practice were positive about the quality of dental service they had received. For example, patients' told us he is a good dentist, he always explains things'. They told us that treatment plans were explained to them in a way they understood and the costs of treatment were made clear before treatment commenced. Patients said that their privacy and dignity were respected by the dentist.

Patients told us that they felt safe and that the dental practice was always clean and tidy.
