Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 16 April 2026

Date of Assessment: 28 April to 22 May 2026.

This service is a residential care home providing support to older people, some of whom may be living with dementia. The service can support up to 22 people. At the time of the inspection, 21 people were living in the service.

We carried out this inspection as the service had an aged, inherited rating from the previous provider and had not been inspected under the current provider. This was a comprehensive inspection covering all key questions and quality statements.

At the time of the inspection, the service was providing support to some older autistic people and people with a learning disability. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the provider was delivering care in line with these principles.

At the last inspection, under the previous provider, this service was rated good. At this inspection, we have found the service remained good.

There were enough staff available to meet people’s needs. Staff knew people well and understood how they liked to be supported. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing.

The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents and staff understood and managed risks. Staff managed medicines well.

People’s needs were assessed. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living.

Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities.

The facilities and equipment met people’s needs. However, we identified some concerns with the condition of the fixtures and fittings within the building. This impacted on staff’s ability to maintain effective infection prevention and control measures. We also found environmental safety precautions required strengthening. The provider responded promptly to our findings, taking immediate action to make the necessary improvements and implement more robust environmental checks. The management team demonstrated a commitment to making continuous improvements in the service to ensure people received good care.

People's experience of the service

Updated 16 April 2026

People and those important to them spoke positively about the quality of care received. They told us staff were knowledgeable, kind and caring. People told us they felt safe.

Comments included, “The carers are kind, understanding, compassionate and patient”, “They are caring people who love their job”, “It’s very safe” and “They [staff] definitely have the knowledge and skills to do the work.”

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed us staff were patient and did not rush when providing support. People were listened to and staff were prompt to respond to people’s needs to minimise any distress or delay.

People and relatives told us the management team were friendly and approachable and they praised the homely, welcoming atmosphere of the service. Some relatives said they would like more opportunities to feedback and more flexibility in the arrangements for visiting. However, they told us they felt comfortable speaking to staff and managers at any time and were confident concerns would be addressed.

Comments included, “It’s easy to access [registered manager] and they are very friendly and approachable”, “[Registered manager] always has time to talk to you”, “I can give feedback anytime ad hoc” and “I couldn’t have found a better home. It’s small and homely with amazing care.”
