During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 21 August 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Identity Dental Care is in Billingham and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 6 staff employed at the practice, of which there were 1 dentist, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, and the practice manager.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service. People said that they were very happy and that they saw the dentist on a regular basis. They confirmed the dentist always explained what they were doing, what they had found during the examination and what the treatment options were. They told us that they found the staff to be approachable and that they felt able to ask the dentist questions or make comments about their treatment. One person spoken with said, 'I would highly recommend it here. Everyone is friendly and my dentist is really good.' Another person said, 'The family have a plan. Everything is always explained from treatment to cost.'

People told us that the practice was flexible and that if they needed to see the dentist in an emergency they would always fit them in. On the day of the inspection we found this to be the case as one person contacted the surgery and asked to see the dentist that day. An appointment was made to be seen that morning.

We found that people had their privacy and dignity respected.

We found that people were protected from the risk of infection as care was delivered in a clean and hygienic environment, however not all essential infection control policies/procedures had been developed.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

People told us that they felt comfortable in raising a concern or complaint with staff working at the practice
