Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 21 July 2026 to 13 August 2026.
Leighton Rose Care Home is a care home providing accommodation, nursing and personal care for older people, including people living with dementia. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service.
People received care from staff who knew them well and understood their individual needs. Staff worked effectively with healthcare professionals to support people’s health and wellbeing, and care planning reflected people’s preferences, strengths and goals. We observed kind, caring and respectful interactions throughout the assessment and received positive feedback from people and relatives about the quality of care and support provided.
People were supported to maintain their independence, make choices about their daily lives and access activities and opportunities that were important to them. Staff responded appropriately to changes in people's needs and leaders promoted a positive culture focused on providing person-centred care. Staff described leaders as approachable, supportive and responsive, and told us they felt well supported in their roles.
Whilst people experienced positive outcomes overall, we identified some areas where further improvements were needed. Governance processes had not always identified opportunities to strengthen oversight in a timely way, including aspects of safeguarding reporting, gathering and analysing feedback, and some areas of care documentation. We also received mixed feedback regarding staffing consistency and communication with relatives. Leaders were open and transparent throughout the assessment, took immediate action where concerns were identified and demonstrated a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
People's experience of this service
Overall, people and their relatives shared mixed experiences of the service. While some relatives raised concerns about staffing levels, call bell response times, food quality and management visibility; other people and relatives told us they felt safe and well cared for, and described staff as kind, caring and supportive. Relatives said staff knew people well and responded appropriately to changes in their needs. Several people specifically praised senior staff, describing them as approachable and responsive. One relative said, “[Staff member] is fantastic.” Another person described staff as, “Good as gold, bloody good I tell you, nice people, nice location.”
People also spoke positively about maintaining their independence and having opportunities to participate in activities. People told us there was regularly “something going on” and relatives described improvements in their family members’ wellbeing since moving into the home. One resident said, “I get up when I want, eat when I want, do what I want.” A relative told us, “[Relative] is so content at this place, they have improved since they have been here.”
