Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
The provider had inclusive leaders at all levels who understood the context in which they delivered care, treatment and support and embodied the culture and values of their workforce and organisation. Leaders had the skills, knowledge, experience and credibility to lead effectively. They did so with integrity, openness and honesty.
At our last assessment, we found leaders did not always have the oversight or systems required to consistently identify, recognise or escalate concerns within the service. The registered manager was new in post and was developing and establishing the governance processes.
At this assessment, the governance processes had been developed to ensure leaders maintained safe and effective oversight of the home. Gaps in internal processes had now been addressed so that risks were reliably identified. This meant that that leaders were clear about the priorities for the service and could take timely action to minimise and mitigate any risks.
Leaders created an inclusive culture and were responsive to feedback throughout the assessment process. This meant that people benefited from a service that was committed to learning and improving on an ongoing basis.
Freedom to speak up
We did not look at Freedom to speak up during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion
We did not look at Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Governance, management and sustainability
The provider now had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They now acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, so this could be shared securely with others when appropriate.
We reviewed a range of audits which monitored safety and quality across the service and were now used effectively to drive improvement. Audits identified areas for review and were used to monitor safety, quality and service delivery. Therefore, people now benefitted from an effective governance structure which supported the provider and management team to undertake their roles. Audits were now completed reliably, with greater structure, oversight and follow through. Governance processes to learn and improve from incidents and accidents were now operating effectively, with significant improvement made specifically in relation to falls analysis. This improved system meant that falls had now been consistently monitored to reduce the risk and minimise the potential for reoccurrence.
