Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 3 June 2026.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had systems to identify and manage risks.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Total Dental Care – Saffron Lane is in Leicester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 15 staff, of which there were 4 dentists (one of whom was also the director of the practice), 4 trainee dental nurses, 2 dental therapists, a treatment coordinator, 2 receptionists, an infection, prevention and control lead and the practice manager. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 4 patients. On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback routinely collected by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “I have been a patient of Total Dental Care for many years and can honestly say that the standard of care I have received has been exceptional in every respect. The entire team consistently provides a welcoming, friendly, and professional service that immediately puts patients at ease. From reception through to treatment, every member of staff treats patients with kindness, respect, and genuine care, creating an environment that feels reassuring rather than intimidating.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “The facilities at the Saffron Lane Practice are outstanding. The practice is modern, immaculate, and equipped with up-to-date, state-of-the-art technology. Cleanliness and infection control are clearly taken extremely seriously, and the whole environment inspires confidence and trust.”
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Comments included, “I am someone who likes to understand every possible outcome and often have many questions and concerns before treatment. [Clinician] has always listened patiently, answered every question thoroughly, and never once made me feel embarrassed or unreasonable for asking. In fact, he actively takes the time to explain procedures, treatment options, and the reasoning behind clinical decisions because he understands that having information helps me feel more comfortable and confident. His ability to educate and reassure patients is remarkable.”
Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
Patients were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
