Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 9 June 2025.
We found the practice had met regulations.
Infection control procedures in place were effective.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.
Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.
Total Dental Care – Wicklow Drive Dental Surgery is in Leicester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 2 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 9 staff, of which there was 2 dentists, 5 dental nurses (including 4 trainee dental nurses), 1 receptionist and a clinical/practice manager. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, 1 trainee dental nurse, the clinical/practice manager and the practice owner.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 18 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, “Excellent service, great communication and friendly staff” and “Amazing organisation, always the best advice and caring. Wouldn't go any other place. (Clinician) is fabulous, always gentle and has a magic touch. Thank you.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “My dentist is excellent, makes me feel calm and listened to. Treatment has been fantastic, very gentle and considerate. He (clinician) has always made time to see me if I've been in pain and had no appointment. The staff are all very helpful and welcoming. The practice is very clean. I would highly recommend my dentist to anyone.”
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Comments included, “They are very efficient. We get our appointments when we need them, even in emergencies. Great dentist, understands and explains everything regarding any dental issues. Overall great experience.” Also, “I've been treated by (clinician) at this practice for over 12 years, she is professional, caring and maintains the highest level of clinical effectiveness. Staff are always courteous and helpful and appointments run well to time. I would not use any other dentist.”
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
