Our view of the service

We had previously undertaken an announced on-site inspection of Antwerp House Dental Practice on 4 February 2025. We found the registered provider was not providing safe or well led care and was in breach of Regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment) and Regulation 17 (Good governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. The practice was issued with a warning notice for Regulation 12 and conditions were placed on the provider’s registration relating to Regulation 17.

A further inspection was carried out on 7 May 2025 to follow up on the warning notice for the breach of Regulation 12 and we found that the practice was providing safe care and treatment. However, time was still needed for the improvements to be fully embedded.

We carried out an announced inspection of Antwerp House Dental Practice on 7 April 2026 to follow up on the conditions imposed for the breach of Regulation 17, to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

During our follow-up inspection, we found that whilst some improvements had taken place, the practice had still not met all regulations and remained in breach of Regulation 17, Good governance.

The practice had improved some systems to identify and manage risks, however further improvements were still required, especially regarding the management of fire safety, equipment maintenance, the management of medical emergencies, infection prevention and control and complaints.

Recruitment procedures did not always reflect current legislation.

We found there was still ineffective leadership and a lack of insight regarding their regulatory responsibilities.

Antwerp House Dental Practice is part of Antwerp Dental Group, a dental group provider. The practice is in Cambridge and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 9 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, the dental team consisted of 10 dentists, 4 dental hygienists, 12 dental nurses, 6 trainee dental nurses, 1 orthodontic therapist, 5 receptionists, and 1 practice manager.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good Governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection findings below.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
