During a routine inspection

We spoke with a dentist, the practice manager, staff and patients waiting for treatment. We also spoke with people who had just received treatment from the dentist. This helped us to gain an overview of what people experienced using Hardhorn Road Dental Practice.

Patients we spoke with felt they were provided with enough information about treatment options. They told us they were kept informed about how their course was progressing throughout the treatment process. Comments from patients included, 'Always kept informed of what my treatment was. They have been excellent to me.' Another patient spoken with said, 'The staff are so friendly and make you feel relaxed when you walk through the door.'

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured patient's safety and welfare. We looked at patient records which included private and NHS patients. We spoke with staff regarding the assessment of patients and looked at documents used to record this. Records were up to date and kept in order. This meant patients knew what treatment had been delivered and subsequent support required before it was completed.

Comments we received from patients were positive about the way they were treated by staff. They were satisfied with the care and support shown to them during their treatment. People told us they found the dentist and staff approachable and polite. One patient said, 'The reception staff are so helpful and calm you down if you feel anxious.'

During a routine inspection

We spoke to a range of people about the service. They included, dentist practioners, the manager, staff and patients waiting for treatment and after receiving treatment, in order to gain a balanced overview of what people experience.

Throughout our visit we spoke with a number of patients. During these discussions we received very positive feedback from everyone we spoke with. Patients spoke highly of the way they were treated by staff, and were happy with the care and support shown to them during the course of their treatment. Comments from patients included, " I wouldn't want to visit any other dentist." Also, "The staff are all caring people and put me at ease."

People we spoke with felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were kept informed throughout the stages of the treatment. One patient said, "The dentist was very supportive and kept me informed of what I required." One staff member spoken to said, "It is important to keep the patient informed at all times." Patients found the staff to be friendly and reported that they were treated with respect and dignity.

None of the people we spoke with had any concerns about the standard of care they were receiving and people told us that they would be comfortable in raising any concerns they may have.
