All Inspections

23 September 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection on 12th March 2013 we found that the provider was non-complaint in two outcome areas. We found that patients were not protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had not been followed. We also found that not all records were kept securely. Also, records relevant to the management of the services were not maintained.

We asked the provider to send us an action plan outlining the steps they planned to take in order to meet the regulations. This was received on 24th June 2013.

During this inspection we spoke with the practice manager, undertook observations and reviewed relevant documents. We found that the provider had implemented a number of measures to ensure that patients were now protected from the risk of infection.

We also saw that patient records were kept securely in locked filing cabinets. We saw that daily checks of equipment used in the decontamination process were undertaken and recorded.

12 March 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to two patients who were both pleased with the care they had received. One told us 'Very happy with the service, they know what they're doing' and another was pleased that she had been 'fitted in at short notice' and had 'excellent care'.

All the staff had attended a cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training session within the previous 12 months.

We observed that the surgery was clean and uncluttered. The surgery was cleaned thoroughly between patients

We were shown the training records for three nurses which showed that they had maintained their continuing professional development (CPD). We also saw their registration certificates with the General Dental Council and their level of Hepatitis B immunity following vaccination.

We looked at four sets of patient records and could see that these contained updated medical histories and a description of the treatment which had been discussed. They also contained treatment plan records and NHS consent forms.
