Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

This was the first assessment for this newly registered service after the provider made changes to their registration. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The registered manager and staff always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

We were told by this person they were treated kindly by staff. Staff were respectful to one another and to this person.

Treating people as individuals

The registered manager treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds.

There were key aspects in this person’s care plans which expressed who they were as an individual and what mattered to them. Staff and managers were knowledgeable about what was important to this person.

Independence, choice and control

The registered manager and staff promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

The registered manager and staff recognised and supported this person to do what they wanted to do, each day. Staff sometimes encouraged this person to do other things, but this person’s choices were always respected.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The registered manager and staff listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

Staff were present and available to provide support and check how this person was. The registered manager responded quickly when this person was anxious about something important to them.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The registered manager cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff spoke well of the managers and the registered manager. They felt supported by them. Staff worked well together when supporting people when they were upset and anxious.
