Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 24 February 2026. The provider, Barnsley Healthcare Federation CIC – HSCA provides out of hours GP services to the population of Barnsley between the hours of 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday and weekends. We conducted this assessment as a new registered location due to the provider moving its main registered premises address. The service operates from the main site at BHF Priory Centre, Pontefract Road, Lundwood, S71 5PN with a branch site at Chapelfield Medical Centre based at Mayflower Way, Wombwell, Barnsley, S73 0AJ. We visited both sites as part of this assessment. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
We found breaches of regulation in relation to Regulation 17 – Good Governance due to the provider not having adequate systems and processes in place to enable them to identify and assess risks to the health, safety and/or welfare of people who use the service.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. NHS Friends and Family Test results showed high levels of satisfaction. Between November 2025 and January 2026, 245 responses were received with 96% of patients rating the service as either very good or excellent. Feedback was largely positive, highlighting short waiting times, helpful and friendly staff, and thorough clinical assessments. Patients reported feeling listened to and treated with kindness, dignity and respect.
