Our view of the service

Date of the assessment: 14, 15 June 2026.

Haresbrook Park Care Home provides accommodation and personal care to younger people, older people, people living with dementia and people with mental health condition. The service is registered to support up to 57 people; there were 53 people using the service at the time of the inspection.

The inspection was triggered by intelligence from a complainant about low staffing levels and lack of managerial support during weekends. At the last inspection the rating was requires improvement, at this inspection the rating remains requires improvement. At this inspection we found 2 breaches of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance.

Records related to the management of medicines were not always complete and up to date. Staff’s competencies in administration of medicines were assessed by a deputy manager. However, the deputy manager has not received any additional training on how to assess staff’s competencies in this area. During our visit we found some areas of the kitchen dirty, and some food items without open dates. Some window restrictors were not compliant.

There were discrepancies in people’s nutritional care plans, and staff were not always knowledgeable about people’s current nutritional needs. Some care plans and risk assessments were not always updated or provided contradictory information. While there were examples of good engagement and activities, these were not consistently tailored or meaningful for all residents.

The provider’s quality assurance and auditing systems were inconsistent and not always effective in detecting concerns.

The registered manager acted upon our feedback and updated care plans, risk assessments and electronic medication administration records (Emars). Face to face training has been booked for staff to improve staff understanding of people’s nutritional needs.

People were supported by staff that had been recruited safely. Staff understood the different types of abuse and knew how to report and record any concerns. Accidents and incidents were reviewed by the registered manager to identify any potential themes and trends to prevent the risk of incidents from happening again.

We observed staff interacting with people in a warm, caring and respectful way. All the staff we spoke with were kind and compassionate when speaking about the people they supported. The atmosphere in the home was friendly, and people told us they felt safe and happy living at Haresbrook Park Care Home.

People's experience of this service

Feedback from people and their relatives was mostly positive. One person’s relative told us, “I have nothing but admiration for the (care) home.”

People and relatives described staff as kind, caring and knowledgeable, and said they understood people’s individual needs well. People and relatives told us staff treated people with dignity and respect. We observed staff supporting people in a calm and patient manner, and most relatives said staff were kind, caring and attentive. People appeared relaxed in their environment and told us they felt comfortable living at the home. However not all people enjoyed meaningful activities.

The service provider assisted people to attend their local church and enabled transport for people to attend a religious service if they wished to.
