Our view of the service
Our assessment took place on 18 and 25 March 2026. Bromley Place is a residential care home for up to 3 adults under 65 with learning disabilities or mental health needs. The provider also operates supported living homes on the site; however, these do not deliver regulated activities and were not included in our assessment. At the time of our visit, 3 people were receiving a regulated activity, each living in their own self-contained flat with private living, kitchen and bathroom facilities.
We assessed the service against the principles of ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ to determine whether the provider ensured people with a learning disability and autistic people were supported with respect, equality and dignity, and were enabled to make choices, maintain independence and access their local communities in line with good practice.
We gathered information from people who used the service, the registered manager, care staff, and health and social care partners involved in people’s care.
During our assessment we found some minor concerns relating to medicines management, including the quality of some as and when required (PRN) medicines protocols and the presence of expired medicines. We also found an adults barred list check had not been completed as part of one staff member’s Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The management team were proactive in addressing the concerns and assurances were provided to demonstrate action had been taken to keep people safe.
However, we found people received individualised support based on their assessed needs, goals and aspirations. Support was planned, delivered and regularly reviewed in partnership with people, and relevant professionals. Care and support were person-centred and focused on promoting choice, control and independence in people’s daily lives. We found there were enough staff on duty to promptly meet people’s needs. Risks to people were understood and managed effectively to reduce the likelihood of harm, and staff demonstrated a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and how to protect people’s wellbeing.
People's experience of this service
People’s feedback about their experience of living at Bromley Place was positive. People told us they liked living at the service and described staff as kind and supportive. People spoke positively about the activities they enjoyed, which included playing football at the local park and attending church.
During the assessment, we observed people appeared relaxed within the service and interacted positively with staff. Engagement with management was also positive. We saw a person speaking with the registered manager and observed them respond with kindness and reassurance when the person became upset. This demonstrated people felt comfortable seeking support and had trusting relationships with staff and management.
People’s flats were personalised to reflect their individual preferences. We saw people had their own photographs and personal items on display, and people told us they were able to decorate their flats in colours of their choosing. This supported people to feel at home in their own living environment.
