During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment: 29 and 30 April 2026. Tanglewood is a residential care home providing support to people with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
This was the first assessment of this newly registered service. We have rated the service good.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Tanglewood had been operational for just over a year at the time of our inspection visit. Managers and behaviour analysts had worked very closely with people and their families to build a picture of people’s individual needs and preferences before they moved into Tanglewood. Where possible, the preparations for moves had taken place over several months. This had ensured staff had the information they needed to provide people with highly individualised person-centred care.
Staff were committed to supporting people to live full and enriched lives. People were encouraged to take part in established hobbies and interests as well as trying new things. Staff knew people well and were able to quickly identify if they were becoming anxious. Because of this they were able to help people to avoid becoming distressed.
There was a relaxed but focused atmosphere at Tanglewood. Staff worked alongside people and were inclusive in their approach helping to ensure people’s voices were heard and listened to.
Risks were well managed and people were supported to do the things that mattered to them.
Staff received training appropriate to their roles, this was regularly updated to help ensure skills and knowledge were refreshed.
There was a strong learning culture throughout the organisation. Staff were encouraged to share ideas and make suggestions. They told us they felt listened to and valued. They described leaders as visible and approachable. The registered manager regularly worked alongside staff and so was able to model organisational values. This helped nurture a positive culture where staff felt confident in their roles.
