During an assessment under our new approach

EVHM LLP – 25 Alexandra Road is a small residential care home providing personal care and support for up to 3 people. The service specialised in the care of people with a learning disability and autistic people.

This assessment was carried out between 18 February and 12 March 2026. We visited the service on 18 and 19 March 2026. At the time of the assessment there were 3 people living at the service. Only two of the people were in receipt of a regulated activity. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

Although the service has been operational for a number of years, within the last two years the service was registered under a new provider name. This meant that the service no longer had a rating. This assessment was therefore required for the service to receive a rating.

The service was responsive to people’s changing needs and when additional training was required the registered manager sought this. Record keeping in relation to fire drills needed to be more detailed to evaluate staff performance.

There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and to ensure additional support in an emergency situation. There was a very low staff turnover. This meant staff knew people well and were able to identify the subtle cues that indicated when one person might not be feeling well or if they were in pain. All staff felt it was a great place to work and valued the support they received from the registered manager, the deputy and from the providers. They felt supported and valued as part of the staff team. The service made reasonable adjustments with staff when needed to ensure a good work life balance. We observed staff interacting warmly with people and saw that people responded well to this.

Leaders and staff actively considered the least restrictive options to keep people safe. There was evidence the service learned from incidents and made improvements where needed. Staff sought appropriate professional advice and support when needed to ensure people’s health and wellbeing was maintained. Quality assurance assessments were used to review the performance of the service. There were plans in place to develop this further and ensure a more proactive approach to maintaining and increasing the quality of the service provided.
