During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we spoke with five people who were registered with the practice. We also spoke with the orthodontist (who was also the provider) and three staff. We reviewed four dental records, policies and procedures and the complaints procedure.

Patients who used the practice told us that they were happy with the quality of treatment they received. One person told us: "The care they give is nothing short of excellent". Another said: "The care and treatment is really good". They felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were able to ask any questions that they wanted to.

People told us that the practice was clean and tidy and that they had no concerns about hygiene. We saw from staff recordings that regular infection control checks had been carried out. This ensured that hygiene and cleanliness was maintained in clinical areas.

By looking through the staff records we were able to see that the orthodontist and staff were qualified and maintained their continuous professional development (CPD) as required. There was a clear recruitment process in place which included carrying out interviews, obtaining Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks on staff and seeking references for all new staff.

The practice clearly displayed its complaints policy in the patient's waiting room and made it available to patients on the practice website.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who were receiving treatment, or who had received treatment, at Graham Gardner Orthodontics.

Everyone said they had been treated with courtesy and respect, and had felt relaxed and reassured during their treatment. One person, for example said 'They made the whole experience a pleasure' This was representative of the views of others that we spoke with.

Patients told us that options and benefits of different treatments had been clearly explained to them.

People said that they had had a full assessment of their treatment needs, and everyone understood the treatment they received. People said that their medical histories had been noted, and discussed appropriately.

Everyone commented on the cleanliness of the clinic, and people told us that personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, were worn at all times.
