During a routine inspection

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection on 11 April 2016 to ask the practice the following key questions; Are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led?

Our findings were:

We found that this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations

Are services effective?

We found that this practice was providing effective care in accordance with the relevant regulations

Are services caring?

We found that this practice was providing caring services in accordance with the relevant regulations

Are services responsive?

We found that this practice was providing responsive care in accordance with the relevant regulations

Are services well-led?

We found that this practice was providing well-led care in accordance with the relevant regulation

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who used the service and four members of staff which included the dentist. The people we spoke with were happy with the service, and the way they were treated.

The practice offered only private dental care to adult patients. The practice had an NHS contract for children. We saw that although the practice was on the first floor the practice offered visits to people who could not access the surgery. This meant that people with limited mobility would be unable to reach the dental surgery.

The practice offered a good range of appropriate information about oral and dental health.

We found that the practice allocated sessions for emergency treatments every day. All staff were welcoming and friendly. People were greeted with a smile and an appropriate greeting on arrival at the dental surgery.

The practice was clean and tidy throughout. Appropriate steps were taken to manage and reduce the control the risks of infection.

Staff were encouraged to undertake appropriate professional development and were registered with the British Dental Council which is a professional requirement

People who used the service were encouraged to provide feedback to the service about how it met their individual needs. We saw evidence that surveys asked a range of questions about the service including how people had found out about the service. The responses we saw indicated that the practice had been recommended to them or by word of mouth from other people.
