During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak with people using the practice on this occasion. People's views were sought at the previous inspection and were included within the inspection report of February 2013.

The provider had made improvements to ensure the x-ray room was secure and signs displayed to prevent unauthorised access. People's health and safety was protected because the new work surfaces were installed and the damaged head rest replaced in one of the treatment room

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who attended an appointment on the day of the inspection. They said they were happy with the care and treatment received and felt well informed about the treatment options available to them. People's comments included: 'It's a very good practice in my experience otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back' and 'Everyone takes pride and care in looking after you here.'

People were consulted about the treatment options and made informed decisions. People received information and advice on maintaining good oral care. Records viewed confirmed the people's treatment was agreed, consent obtained and treatment plan was in place.

People were satisfied with the hygiene and cleanliness of the treatment rooms. Discussion and observation of staff showed there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. Review of the infection prevention and decontamination policies were up to date; comprehensive and responsibilities clearly defined.

Treatment rooms were of good size and fully equipped. Improvements were needed to ensure the x-ray area was safe and secure at all times.

There were effective recruitment processes in place, which ensured suitably qualified staff were employed. Discussion with staff and review of records showed staff accessed regular training to maintain their professional registration. The provider had an effective quality assurance system in place to monitor and manage the quality of service provided.
