Our view of the service
We carried out this announced off-site inspection on 19 June 2026.
Where we carry out an off-site assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.
We found the practice had met regulations.
Overall, the practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Halton House Dental Centre Limited is part of Colosseum, a dental group provider. The practice is in Paulton, Bristol and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was ramped access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, at the practice.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 11 staff. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 1 dental nurse, 1 dental therapist and the practice manager. The group’s Clinical Quality Manager was also at the inspection supporting the practice.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 2 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
In addition, we saw feedback collected by the practice between March and May 2026. Overall patient feedback remained consistently positive.
Patients praised the practice for its friendly, caring and professional team, describing staff as “Cheerful and skilled” and “Very friendly and helpful.”
Many patients highlighted the kindness and reassurance provided during appointments. Comments included, “Always friendly and listens carefully” and “Just puts you at ease when someone is kind.”
Those experiencing anxiety or nervousness felt particularly well supported. One patient commented, “I’m a very nervous patient and even though it was only a check-up he explained exactly what he was doing,” while another noted, “The lady was very calming and spoke softly.” Parents also praised staff for their patience with children, with a patient noting clinicians had “lots of patience with my reluctant 5-year-old.”
Communication and information sharing were frequently highlighted as strengths. Patients reported that clinicians “Made clear the options and costs” and “Explained everything and prescribed some toothpaste as a preventative treatment.”
Clinical care and professionalism were also praised. Patients stated, “My dentist scaled my teeth so well it brought my smile back” and “I feel confident in her work and advice.”
Patients also valued the efficiency of appointments and the overall experience, commenting that they were “Very quick to see me” and received “Efficient, on time, friendly and gentle treatment.”
Some lower-scoring themes related to waiting times, punctuality and occasional difficulties accessing appointments. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions or concerns were raised, appropriate action would be taken.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team.
