During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who had attended appointments on the day of inspection; they all spoke positively about the service provided by the surgery. One person said "I don't think the service could be any better". Another person commented "the dentist is fantastic; I'm so relieved to have come here".

People told us they were fully involved in the decisions about their dental care and treatment. They said that the dentist always discussed treatment options and cost with them to help them make an informed decision.

We saw that the practice was clean and organised and that staff understood infection control procedures. We found that there were arrangements in place to ensure that equipment was kept clean and ready for use. People we spoke with said that the surgery was always clean and tidy.

We found that pre-employment checks were undertaken before staff began work and there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

There were arrangements for monitoring the quality of the service and people who used the practice were encouraged to provide feedback about the surgery.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who were attending for examination or treatment on the day of our visit. One person who was attending for the first time and had been recommended the practice by their partner referred to the service as 'absolutely fantastic' stating that the 'reception staff were polite, courteous and helpful' and that the premises were 'immaculate'. They told us the dentist made them feel at ease and explained the course of treatment they would require including de-scaling, a filling and extraction along with periodontal (gum) treatment. They said the dentist was helpful and answered all their questions and that they 'would highly recommend' the practice to others.

Another person told us they felt they 'were treated as a person'. They said that reception staff referred to them by their preferred name and that whilst they were 'terrified of dental treatment' the dentist understood this and explained what was to happen.

Other people said that they had no complaints about the practice and would report any concerns they had. They also complimented the practice, staff and facilities.

In the survey of people who used the service additional comments included 'excellent reception and really exceptional dental and nursing staff'.

We spoke with several staff. They told us how well they felt supported and how they felt the practice was well organised.
