During a routine inspection

We carried out this announced inspection on 20 June 2017 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We planned the inspection to check whether the registered provider was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations. The inspection was led by a CQC inspector who was supported by a specialist dental adviser.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:

• Is it safe?

• Is it effective?

• Is it caring?

• Is it responsive to people’s needs?

• Is it well-led?

These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

Our findings were:

Are services safe?

We found that this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services effective?

We found that this practice was providing effective care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services caring?

We found that this practice was providing caring services in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services responsive?

We found that this practice was providing responsive care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services well-led?

We found that this practice was providing well-led care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

During a routine inspection

We visited Molesey Dental Practice to look at the care and treatment provided to patients who used the service. We spoke with three patients, four members of staff (which included the principal dentist who is the registered manager) and observed two consultation sessions. We also collected nine responses to a patient questionnaire we left in the waiting area.

The patients we spoke with were very satisfied with the care they received at the practice. They told us that they were asked to consent to their care and treatment in advance and told us they had been given treatment options by the dentist. We were told by one patient 'They explain everything.'

All of the patients we spoke with and who completed our questionnaire told us they felt safe in the practice.

Patients told us they always found the practice clean and that the clinical staff wore masks and gloves.

We saw that the practice had a complaints policy and that they listened to patients' comments and feedback.
