All Inspections

30 April 2013

During a routine inspection

Patients we spoke with told us they were very satisfied with the care and treatment they received. They told us the dentists explained treatments and gave good information to support what they were doing.

We checked six people's records and found evidence of completed records in respect of dental examinations, assessments, treatment planning and advice. All records were up to date.

We found that health assessments were undertaken and reviewed at regular intervals. Care and treatment plans were discussed including options, risks and benefits of treatment. Staff were trained in emergency procedures. Emergency equipment was checked and accessible. There were appropriate policies, procedures and risk assessments in place for radiological safety. We found there were sufficient numbers of suitably experienced and qualified staff in order to care safely for the patients.

We found the practice was compliant with the essential quality requirements of Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in primary care dental practices (HTM01-05). The HTM 01-05 is designed to assist all registered primary dental care services meet satisfactory levels of decontamination. Evidence was seen of the practice having undertaken regular audits which demonstrated compliance with HTM01-05 standards.

The quality of the service provided to people was monitored through audits including infection control and record keeping. A patient satisfaction survey had not been undertaken.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak to any patients at this review. This is because we did not undertake an inspection at the dental practice. The review of improvements was undertaken by reviewing further evidence sent to us by the provider to demonstrate improvements had been made and compliance achieved. We reviewed compliance for outcome seven, at the last review we found children and adults who use the service may have been at risk as staff were not appropriately trained and did not have access to up to date national and local guidance and policies and procedures for safeguarding.

19 December 2011

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the service. They were very happy with the care and treatment provided and said the practice always managed to fit them in if they needed to see a dentist urgently. Patients said 'The service is excellent', 'They can't do enough for you'

We saw further evidence of satisfaction with the care in the patient surveys reported upon in June 2011.
