During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

At our last inspection on 31 January 2013, we identified concerns about the flooring within some of the treatment rooms and decontamination room.

On 2 April 2013, we received evidence from the provider that demonstrated that remedial action had been taken to ensure these areas were now in good physical repair; enabling effective cleaning and minimising the risk of cross infection.

During a routine inspection

When we visited St Peter's Clinic Dental Surgery on 31 January 2013, we were unable to speak with any people seeing the dentist as no patients were scheduled during the time of our inspection. However, we reviewed patient notes and looked at patient satisfaction questionnaires that showed how the people receiving private dental treatment were satisfied with the service they received. We saw from patient records that dentists explained people's options and provided information for them to make their own decisions on treatments.

The surgery had effective processes in place to ensure that treatment was delivered safely. However, the floor coverings in the treatment areas and in the dedicated decontamination room were not sufficient to ensure that infection or cross contamination were prevented. All areas of the building were clean and tidy and there were infection control processes in place to ensure people were treated safely, with the exception of the floor coverings noted.

We observed information to inform people how they could raise any shortfall or complaints with the provider if it were necessary. We also saw recent patient questionnaires showing high levels of satisfaction.
