During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection in June 2013 we found concerns with the requirements relating to workers. This was because although there were recruitment and selection processes in place, the provider had not followed them when recruiting new staff. We did not find evidence to show that some pre-employment checks had been carried out. We wrote to the provider and asked them to make improvements. The provider wrote to us and told us that they had taken action to address the concerns. We visited the practice and reviewed staff files. We spoke with a dentist and the office manager who explained that they had taken up references for the staff they had employed and checked photographic identification.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people who used the service. People said that they were very happy and that they saw the dentist on a regular basis. They told us the care they received was excellent. They confirmed that the dentist and their staff explained treatment and payment options in detail with them. One person told us, 'I have stayed with my dentist even when they moved to this practice, they are the gentlest dentist ever.' Another person said,' I have been with this practice for over 50 years, I am very happy with them they are all excellent.'

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

People told us that the practice was flexible and that if they needed to see the dentist in an emergency they would always fit them in.

We found that people had their privacy and dignity respected.

We found that people were protected from the risk of infection as care was delivered in a clean and hygienic environment.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

People told us that they felt comfortable in raising a concern or complaint with staff working at the practice. The practice had a system in place for dealing with complaints.
