During a routine inspection

We visited the surgery; spoke with the dentist, an associate dentist, the practice manager, two dental nurses and two decontamination technicians. We spoke with four patients, and looked at a selection of patient records.

We found that before patients received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent. One patient told us: 'I signed a consent form for costs. The dentist is very good he always explains the treatment to me and what he's going to do.'

Patients told us that the dentists always explained the treatment to them. One patient said: 'They really took care of me.'

We saw that patients completed a medical questionnaire when they first attended the surgery and these details were updated on subsequent visits including any changes to a patient's medication.

We saw that the premises were clean and hygienic. One patient told us: 'The surgery is always spotless and the staff on reception are so pleasant.'

We found that staff were trained and supported to perform their jobs.

During a routine inspection

The people who use the service told us that they are very happy with the care they receive. One of the people told us that they had used the service for years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

We were told that the reception staff always welcomed them and made them feel comfortable and that they were spoken to in a friendly professional manner.

They felt that their treatment was always explained to them and any questions answered. They said that they were given enough information for them to make an informed choice regarding the best treatment.

We were also told that generally appointments were easy to access especially in an emergency and that they weren't kept waiting long for their appointment.
