Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 4 June 2026.
We found the practice had had not met all regulations.
We found shortfalls in appropriately assessing and mitigating risks in relation to the control of substances hazardous to health, data protection, disability equality, radiography equipment maintenance and lone working staff.
The management of fire safety required improvement to ensure national guidance was followed.
Although there are issues to be addressed, the impact of our concerns relates to the governance and the oversight of the risks, rather than a patient safety risk.
The practice is in Cirencester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice is not suitable for patients with limited mobility due to an internal staircase. If patients contact the practice to discuss mobility needs, the staff team can advise how they can assist or direct to a more accessible practice.
The practice had 5 treatment rooms.
At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 18 staff, of which there were 4 dentists, 5 dental nurses of which 1 also covered reception, 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 sterilisation technician, 3 dental hygienists, 1 cleaner, and 3 receptionists.
We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 1 sterilisation technician, 2 dental nurses, and 2 receptionists.
The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good governance regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
People's experience of the service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 11 patients.
On the day of our inspection, we spoke with and saw patient feedback from a further 18 patients.
Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included, "I would like to say that I find the surgery up to speed with all necessary equipment and innovative ideas to run the surgery in a highly successful operation. Premises are spotless and the staff very friendly, polite andhelpful.”
“All staff are helpful and friendly, and the waiting areas and treatment rooms are clean and tidy. There are air purifiers throughout. Dental service is professional and efficient. If treatment is required, care is taken to ensure that you fully understand what this is, whether there are alternatives, and the cost involved. From my experience, I would thoroughly recommend the practice.”
“I have only the best things to say about Market Place Dental Practice and the staff who work there. I have been visiting the practice for about seven years, along with my wife and two daughters. The dental care has always been excellent and the practice itself extremely well managed (from impeccably clean rooms - as you would hope for from a dentist - to the super friendly and efficient staff). We're lucky to have Market Place Dental Practice so close to where we live.”
“The service I receive from this practice is outstanding. The support staff have excellent interpersonal skills. They are positive, helpful and knowledgeable. The practice manages patient demand well. I have always been seen promptly when in urgent need. Their management of patient needs during covid was exemplary. I am over 80 and have experienced many dental practices in my time. Market Place is by far the best and one reasons [sic] why my husband and I would be reluctant to leave Cirencester.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
