Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. At our last inspection we rated this key question Good. At this inspection the rating has remained Good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

People’s needs were assessed before they moved to the service. We saw records confirming assessments were carried out with people, their relatives and social are professionals. Care plans were developed which outlined people’s care and support needs, and the tasks staff were required to complete. A relative told us they attended their loved one’s annual care planning reviews. They had regular contact with staff at the service, so they always had the opportunity to comment about their loved one’s care if they needed to.

The provider respected peoples right around consent when delivering person-centred care and treatment. The provider had assessed people’s mental capacity to make decisions. They obtained consent and made sure choices were presented in a way which people could understand and consent to. For people who lacked the mental capacity to make decisions, staff had consulted with their representatives to make sure decisions were made in their best interests.
