Date of Assessment: 20 April 2026 to 6 May 2026.

Beech House Care Home is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 30 older or younger people who may be living with dementia. At the time of our assessment, there were 26 people living at the home. We carried out this assessment in part due to the age of the rating which was inherited from the previous provider and due to receiving information about the service which suggested risk may be increasing. We reviewed all the quality statements.

Systems in place did not always ensure the safe administration or monitoring of people’s medicines, although people had not come to any harm from these shortfalls. Care plans and risk assessments were not always detailed or person-centred. However, staff knew people well and supported people safely. The provider was working to address other shortfalls in safety checks, support for staff and ensuring all staff had taken part in a recent fire drill.

Staff were genuinely kind and caring which helped to create a warm, comforting atmosphere. Staff understood the support people needed and met their needs whilst promoting people’s independence. Staff provided care and support in line with people’s preferences.

A wide range of activities were available for people to participate in if they wished. Where people chose not to participate, staff respected their decision. Nutritional meals, snacks and drinks were available for people when they wanted them with staff providing appropriate support. For people who followed specific diets, their dietary needs were met.

People were supported by sufficient numbers of staff who demonstrated the required skills and knowledge of their role. Mandatory training was completed, though specific training to support staff with meeting people’s individual needs was required. The home was clean and undergoing refurbishment as part of the provider’s investment and improvement plan. Recruitment processes meant only suitable staff were employed. Staff enjoyed their roles and working as part of an effective team.

Staff worked in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act and respected people’s choices and decisions. Staff worked with health and social care professionals to ensure people received the care and treatment they needed, when they needed it.

The provider and new management team were committed to improving the service with feedback sought from people, their relatives and staff used to drive improvements.

People's experience of the service

Updated 8 April 2026

People were safe and happy at Beech House Care Home. A person said, “I've been happy whilst I've been here. The staff are always kind and good. I've got a good relationship with most people.” Another person told us how their family had supported them to move into the service following a bereavement and they said, “I think it's very good for what it is… I'm safe. “

People’s relatives gave positive feedback about the service. A relative said, “Staff have been really good, spot on…The food is good and they're treated well.” Another told us, “It's very good, my [relative] has deteriorated since they’ve been there but that's nothing to do with them just old age and dementia taking hold. The carers all seem to genuinely care about people. Staff keep me informed how my [relative] is and if they need anything.”

People and most of their relatives were happy with the food. People talked to us about their favourite meals which were cooked. One person said, “They always come with a menu, if I don't like it, they'll do something different for me.”

People and their relatives told us they were happy being supported by a caring and consistent staff team. A relative said, “[Person’s name] was poorly, and I couldn’t fault the staff for how they've looked after them. I know when I go in, I can go and have a chat with them, the new manager is very open and most of the staff are approachable.”
