Windlesham Manor is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for a maximum of 40 service users. Support was provided to people with a wide range of needs including those living with dementia, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. At the time of inspection there were 31 people living at the home. The home is a large, detached property located in a rural location. We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last visit. The registered manager had worked at the service for several years and knew the people well. The provider liaised with other healthcare professionals to provide continuity of care and treatment, this ensured people had safe transitions and pathways of care if moving between different services. The provider carried out comprehensive pre-assessment checks prior to admission, ensuring people’s needs could be managed. The home was clean, equipment was well maintained, and environmental risks were safely managed. Medicines were stored and given safely, which was supported by suitable processes. Staff treated people with kindness and respect and delivered care that was person centred with risk assessments in place that were regularly reviewed and updated. There was a range of daily activities offered. People’s nutrition and hydration needs were met with the home offering a choice of meals and catering for any specialist dietary requirements. People and staff had regular opportunities to feedback. The provider responded to make changes when necessary. There was a culture of openness and transparency and a welcoming friendly atmosphere. People were encouraged to have choice and control over their lifestyle and daily routine, and the provider had required policies in place.
