Date of Assessment: 21 April 2026 to 1 May 2026. Outram Fields is a care home providing personal care to people, some of whom were living with dementia. The service is registered to support up to 81 people and was supporting 53 people at the time of the assessment. This was the first assessment of this service which registered with CQC February 2024 . At this assessment, the service has been rated good.
The service supported people safely. Staff understood how to identify and address safeguarding issues should these arise. Staff were recruited safely and received appropriate training to support them to complete their roles. Feedback from people, relatives and staff was mixed in regarding to if the service had a sufficient number of support staff. People at the service told us more staff were required. Inspectors did not find evidence of a negative impact on people due to staffing numbers. Medicines were managed safely and accurate records kept.
Staff were kind and caring to the people they supported and knew people well. Care was person-centred and managers and staff worked together well. Feedback from professionals was positive, professionals told us the service was easy to contact and staff followed their advice.
People had access to entertainment and activities at the service and could choose which activities to partake in. The service also had access to their own minibus and regular outings were arranged.
The registered manager ensured governance systems were effective within the organisation and demonstrated a commitment to continual service improvement. Feedback from people, relatives and staff was actively sought and acted upon.
 

People's experience of the service

Overall feedback from people and their relatives was positive about the service. Staff were described as kind, caring and hard working. People told us, “The staff here are very nice” and “The staff are fabulous, I don’t have a problem with them.” Most people we spoke to at the service told us they did not feel there were a sufficient number of staff. People told us, “They have been short staffed recently, they say they aren’t, but from what I have seen, they are” and “The staff are fine, there’s just not enough of them, there never is.”
Relatives spoke positively of their experiences with the service. Feedback suggested that it was easy to contact the service and relatives felt they were kept informed about any changes that were taking place.
Relatives spoke highly about their experiences of the home when their loved ones were receiving end of life care whilst living at the service. Staff were praised for the love and care shown to their relatives at this time and the support offered to families.
Reviews about food at the service were mainly positive, and people confirmed that they had a choice of menu’s daily and could order something different if they wanted.
People confirmed there was a range of activities both within the home and trips out that they could partake in if they chose to do so. People told us, “Some people have just gone out on a trip, my room is very nice and sometimes I just like to sit and watch the world go by” and “Generally there is something on offer if you want to do it.”
