Our current view of the service

Updated 23 December 2025

We carried out this announced off-site inspection on 7 August 2026.

Where we carry out an off-site inspection, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected relevant legislation, with some improvements needed to ensure evidence of recruitment checks was consistently available and records were securely retained. The practice had systems in place to support effective leadership and continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

GMDA Wigan is part of Rodericks Dental Partners, a dental group provider. The practice is in Wigan and provides NHS urgent, out-of-hours dental care and treatment for adults and children.

Due to the limitations of the building, the practice was not wheelchair accessible. Patients requiring accessible facilities were directed to a nearby sister practice. On-street car parking was available in the surrounding area, and the practice was located on a local bus route.

The practice had 5 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 18 staff. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, and the practice manager. Two of the group’s Compliance Managers were also at the inspection supporting the team.

People's experience of the service

Updated 23 December 2025

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us.

We also reviewed comments collected by the practice and online reviews.

We found limited feedback directly relating to the out-of-hours service, with most online feedback being shared through the main practice page. The feedback we received was positive. One patient said: “I found the reception staff, dentist dental nurse very friendly professional. I was dealt with swiftly safely. Very grateful. Thank you!”

We discussed the limited feedback with the practice leadership team, including whether there were opportunities to encourage patients using the out-of-hours service to provide feedback.

The feedback available reflected positively on the dental team and care provided. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
