Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy, compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

A person told us staff were caring and listened to them.

Staff knew people well and told us how they supported people in a way that they preferred. Care plans reflected this.

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

People’s protected characteristics were considered in their assessments and care plans, to ensure care was tailored to people's needs and preferences. Policies reflected this.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence. Care plans included information on how people liked to spend their time and their preferences. Staff supported people in a way that was in line with their preferences and needs.

Care plans were centred around people preferences and needs and staff respected people’s choices. A person confirmed they were involved in decisions about planning and reviewing their care.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

A person told us they felt the care provided was responsive and flexible. This included monitoring ongoing areas of risks linked to care and timings of the care visits. The registered manager was available to support people if needed.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

There were policies and procedures in place to support staff, such as ongoing training, supervisions and appraisals.

Staff told us they felt well supported by the registered manager and enjoyed working at the service.
