Date of assessment: 27 and 29 January 2025. Chyvarhas Residential and Nursing Home is a ‘care home’ that provides accommodation for a maximum of 36 people. On the day of the inspection, 30 people were living at the service.
This is the first assessment of this location while operated by Sanctuary Care Limited and as a result the assessment looked at all of the key questions; safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Following the assessment we have rated the service good in all areas.
The service was safely staffed and people were protected from abuse. Risk assessments were completed and there was information to guide staff on how to protect people from harm. The service made sure that medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences.
Managers and staff had a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). Capacity assessments were decision specific and evidenced how people had been supported to understand information. Staff respected people’s decision and care plans included information on how to support people when they were making unwise choices.
People’s care needs had been assessed before they moved in and their care plans were informative. Care records demonstrated planned care had been provided and that necessary referrals for external support had been made promptly.
The service was well maintained, and infection control risks were managed effectively. The provider had made improvements to the environment of the service and further works were planned. Some specialist furniture was damaged and following feedback the provider began making arrangements for its replacement.
Staff were well motivated and had the skills necessary to meet people’s needs. Managers were supportive of the staff team who provided care with kindness and compassion. Quality assurance systems were effective, and the provider had robust systems for supporting the service’s managers.
