Woodland Residential Care Home

Date of inspection: 26 January and 28 January 2026. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people some of whom may be living with dementia and/or mental health conditions.
This is the first inspection of Woodland since it was registered with the provider, Sanctuary Care Limited. The inspection was carried out to give the service a rating under the new provider. We have rated the service good in all areas.
There were enough staff to support people in line with their needs and preferences. Call bells were answered and we observed staff responding to people’s requests.
Staff were recruited safely and completed an induction before starting work. Ongoing training and competency checks helped ensure they had the appropriate skills and knowledge to carry out their roles.
People had enough to eat and drink, food was varied and healthy. Staff monitored people’s health and escalated any concerns appropriately. People were supported to access other healthcare agencies when needed. Professionals external to the service were positive about the approach to joint working.
Staff understood and respected people’s individual health and social needs. Care plans contained relevant information and were updated regularly.
Staff told us they were well supported by the registered manager. Regular staff meetings and bespoke workshops and training had supported the development of a positive shared culture within the service.

There was a strong sense of community at Woodland. One person commented, “There are always people about, I like that.” Another told us, “Staff take their time and are sensitive; they pop in and make the place feel like home.”
People and relatives told us they felt safe and staff responded to any requests for support. Staff were described as ‘helpful’ and ‘Friendly.’ Comments included; “Staff know the residents and what makes them comfortable”, “Staff are very friendly and welcoming” and “I must express how dedicated and kind staff are when supporting those living with dementia in the home.”
People were able to spend time on their own or take part in a range of activities. Comments included; “I am very impressed with the quality of the entertainment here, it’s often very amusing and lifts the spirits. I’m also supported go out with my family at weekend” and “I prefer sitting in the lounge by myself, but I do enjoy the staff bobbing in.” Throughout the inspection visit staff chatted and interacted with residents, shared drinks and snacks and generally created a homely and safe environment.
