All Inspections

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Following the last inspection in July 2012 enforcement action was taken against the provider. Warning notices were issued, as there was still non compliance judged with Outcome 16, Regulation 10, monitoring the quality of the service provided and Outcome 21, Regulation 20 record keeping.

We carried out this inspection to assess what improvements had been made, as required in the two warning notices.

People who used the service told us: "Things have got better here recently, it is a nicer place to live", "I am well looked after here, I have no complaints. We also spoke with a relative visiting during the inspection and no issues or cause of concern were raised.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People were very complimentary about the care they received. Some of the comments

were: "The carers are very nice and they do a lot for me." "Whenever I need help they are there for me." "If I want something I am quite able to ask for help."

We asked people living at the home about the meals and they told us: "The meals are usually nice and there is a choice we don't go hungry."

We asked people if they felt safe and what they would do if they had any concerns comments included: "I would speak to one of the girls or the manager."

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out an inspection of the home on 2nd May 2012. During that inspection we found that there was no hot water supply to the bedrooms on the first floor. We issued a Warning Notice advising the provider that they had to make improvements to maintain compliance by the 25th May 2012. This inspection was carried out to check compliance with the Warning Notice.

A further inspection will be carried out to check that the provider has met the other compliance actions made during the inspection on the 2nd May 2012.

We spoke to people living at the home but their feedback did not relate to this standard.

We spoke with staff who told us:"The water takes a minute or so to run hot but it is much better than it was." "Room X still does not have any hot water but I know the manager has asked a plumber to come back in." "It is an old building and it sometimes takes a while for the water to get through upstairs." "It is a million times better than it was some rooms take longer for the water to warm up." "A plumber has been working on it and it is much better."

2 May 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people living at the home who told us that they were satisfied with the care and support they received. We spoke with one person who said they would like to eat in the dining room. They said they did not move out of the lounge and it would be "nice to have a change." One person told us 'the staff are good and always polite and kind'.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People who use services told us that they were mainly happy with the care they were receiving. They told us that they were happy at the home and felt well cared for. Some of the things we were told were, 'I'm very happy here'. I've been well cared for.' Everyone we spoke to spoke positively about the staff who looked after them. They told us that they felt staff listened to them and they knew all of the staff well.
