Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 12 August 2025 to 29 August 2025.

Brook Lodge Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 66 people. There were 48 people living at Brook Lodge Care Home at the time of our assessment. The service provides care and support for older people. This was the first assessment for this service; we completed a fully comprehensive assessment.

People’s care was personalised to reflect their individual needs and preferences. Governance systems and audits were effective in identifying and addressing concerns and helped to drive improvement.

Staff were caring and promoted people’s privacy and dignity. People’s communication needs were assessed. Staff felt supported.

The home was clean and well presented. The environment was safe and there were sufficient staff available to support people and meet their needs. People received their medicines as prescribed.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people who lived at Brook Lodge Care Home along with their relatives to gain insight into the care they received. An expert by experience assisted us in gaining the views of people. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We reviewed care plans and risk assessments. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them.

We received mixed feedback regarding the food at the home and staffing levels. People and their relatives told us management were approachable and proactive. They were responsive to any concerns and welcomed feedback.

People had received support from external healthcare professionals. During our visit we saw people were supported by staff who knew them well and treated them with respect. Staff were attentive to people’s needs.

People and their relatives told us staff were respectful, kind and caring. One person told us staff were “kind” and one relative told us, “I enjoy visiting [relative], the care staff are bright and helpful, it’s why we chose the home.”
