During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy with the levels of care and support provided by staff at the home. One relative told us, 'Mum is looked after really well. It feels like a family here."

We saw staff were kind, supportive and knowledgeable about people who used the service. One person who used the service said, 'They (the staff) are all lovely.' One relative told us, "They (staff) talk to people, explain and give choices'I feel staff have all the knowledge they need.'

However, we found some care plans had not been adequately updated to protect people from unsafe care. We also found that infection control and cleanliness in the communal bathrooms and toilets was in adequate to prevent the spread of infections.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Some people living at the home were unable to express their views about medicines handling due to a variety of complex needs

However, we saw there was written guidance for care workers about the use of medicines prescribed to be taken 'when required'. And, arrangements were in place to help ensure that any special label instructions such as 'before food' were followed.

We spoke to people about their experiences living in the home and were told the staff team provided sensitive and flexible personal care support and they felt well cared for.

Two healthcare professionals told us people were receiving effective, safe and appropriate care which was meeting their needs.

People told us they can express their views and are involved in decision making about their care.

'I like it here. I have been in other homes but this is the best by far. The staff are kind and friendly. You can talk to them if you have a problem and they listen'.

'We talk about my care all the time. I find the staff very supportive'.

'The staff here are very good and always seek appropriate advice when needed. They carry out our instructions to the letter. In my opinion the people here are well cared for and treated with respect.

'I have never received any negative feedback about the care being provided here. The people I visit always seem happy and well cared for'.
